~かのよう is used to create rhetorical "as if" statements that are based on the speaker's feelings/observations.
かのよう may be followed by だ, な, and に:

~かのようだ is for the end of a statement: 「~のようだ。」

~かのような attaches to and modifies a following noun: 「~のような(noun)」

~かのように attaches to and modifies a following verb/adjective: 「~かのように(verb/adjective)」
~かのよう can directly attach to verbs and い-adjectives. It can also directly attach to nouns and な-adjectives, with the addition of である being optional.
E.g. マイクはまるで全て知っているかのように話す。 "Mike speaks as if he knows everything."
E.g. 自分だけが忙しいかのように振る舞うのはやめてもらえる? "Could you stop acting as if you're the only one who is busy?"
E.g. 自分の意見が最重要であるかのように話してくる。 "They speak to me as if their opinion is the most important."
~かのよう is primarily used in polite spoken contexts.
