The ～を契機けいきに pattern is used to describe a "chance/opportunity" that someone takes, or the "trigger/cause" of a given action.

～を契機けいきに attaches to nouns, or occasionally nominalized verbs.

～を契機けいき may be followed by として・にして or simply に, without significant change in meaning or nuance.

～を契機けいきに is most commonly used in formal, written contexts, and occasionally in spoken, polite ones.

E.g. 出産しゅっさんを契機けいきに、児童じどう心理しんりに興味きょうみを持もち始はじめた。 "I became interested in child psychology when I had a baby."

E.g. 父ちちの退職たいしょくを契機けいきとして家族かぞく全員ぜんいんでハワイへの移住いじゅうを決きめた。 "With my father's retirement as the impetus, we decided to move to Hawaii as a family."

E.g. 母ははが入院にゅういんしたことを契機けいきに、将来しょうらいはスポーツ整体師せいたいしになると決きめた。 "My mother's hospitalization led to her decision to become a sports physiotherapist in the future."
